Talking to myself
Since this will remain unread anyway.
My husband and I were discussing the ancient world this morning: Rome, Greece, Phoenicians, Mayans, Aztecs, etc., and their accomplishments such as Mathematics, Astronomy, Architecture, Science, Philosophy, etc.
This discussion was brought about by the episode about Mayan pyramids on Create PBS. We watch such things because we are interested in the Arts and History, and such things are no longer of importance in the Dis-United States of Anri-Intellectualism and Uncommon Sense.
We had made it to a discussion of Egypt and the construction of the Lighthouse in Alexandria when we turned to the Library.
I had a sudden revelation regarding the burning of the Library by Rome — all those scrolls, knowledge, research — and I wondered how no pundit or talking head has seen the correlation to today’s deliberate denial and destruction of knowledge.
That’s it, my soliliquay is done. I’d say, think about it, but since nobody is reading this anyway, I’ll only post a link for reference.

You are wrong about one thing and it isn’t within your content but your remark that ‘no-one will read it anyway'.
You are not alone in how you feel, what you see, feel, acknowledge. Never doubt that someone, somewhere, will find and read and take heart from your words and know that ‘they’ are not alone. If that is only one person then you words have doubled in usefulness. In reality, I suggest that there will be many more and the beauty of that is that from one understanding and acknowledgment of an intentional wrong or mistake or tragic accident, there is a ripple effect which causes more thought, more acknowledgment and more action …
Margaret Mead, (yes, I know she’s out of favour today in the eyes of many), said: “Never believe that a few people can’t change the World - that’s all who ever did.”
Thanks for your post.
Also the burning of the Mayan library, Nazi book burnings, and the destruction of indigenous folkways. And so many more.
